Football Club Moskva originated from FC Torpedo-Metallurg, which itself was established in 1997 following the merger of Torpedo-Luzhniki and Metallurg. In 2004, the team was sponsored by the Moscow mayor’s office and the Interros holding company. At that time, the change was essentially a simple rebranding — and on March 1, 2004, the first reports appeared announcing that Torpedo-Metallurg would be renamed FC Moskva
